Eating dogs is frowned upon in most of the countries, but this is not true of much of the rest of the world. Workers in the Vietnamese community in Malaka, Malaysia are actively hunting and killing homeless dogs for their meat.

The consumption of dog meat is common in Vietnam, but it is strictly illegal in Malaysia. Soaring food prices have led to an increase in popularity of dog meat among many low income immigrant workers who are accustomed to eating canine meat in their home countries. Some restaurants serve the meat illegally as an 'exotic' dish, along with snakes, turtles and monitor lizards. The nation's animal rights movement, calls on the government adopt a stricter animal rights law to prevent cruelty against all animals.
